Accommodations
For home, it's easy to find flashing or vibrating alarms, for the front door, alarm clocks, and fire alarms. Hearing dogs, service animals that alert to a handler's name, and common sounds like timers, knocks, or even keys falling.
|
At school and/or work, accommodations often include the same ones needed at home, with additions tailored to the individual, such as a notetaker, a closed FM system, an interpreter, preferential seating, and/or captioning services.

One book that would be very imformative for parents of deaf children is For Hearing People Only by Matthew Moore. The book contains over 100 common questions that deaf people get and the answers.
One book for children about being deaf is the graphic novel by Cece Bell, El Deafo, about the author's experience as a child with hearing aids and changing schools.
Another recommendation but from the young adult genre would be Matt Fraction's Hawkeye comic books, as he writes about a main character who's a superhero who was deafened as a child for a period of time, learned ASL, grew up, then is deafened again. #19 consists solely of ASL or broken speech bubbles to accurately portray Hawkeye's experience.
